A Coat of Many Colours

Dany Jaspers is a man who dons a coat of many colors: he is a linguist, a dialectologist, a logician, a mathematician, a historian, a theologian, a musician, but above all, he is a warm and kindhearted man, with a deeply rooted aversion for any form of social injustice. On February 4, 2018, Dany celebrated his 60th birthday. We thought it fitting to mark this occasion with a festschrift in his honor, one that is as multi-faceted as the jubilee himself.

When we first sent out a call for papers, the response was overwhelming, which we take to be a testament to the high number of lives that Dany has touched over the years with his intellect, his wit, and his enthusiasm. Accordingly, we would like to thank all the authors of this volume for their highly interesting and original contributions. Inevitably, there will be colleagues, friends, acquaintances, … of Dany’s that we have overlooked. Please be assured that those omissions are unintentional, and solely due to the sheer size of Dany’s network.

It gives us great pleasure to be able to offer this multi-colored coat to Dany. We hope he will find many an hour of enjoyment and excitement in it, and that it will spark many more great ideas and avenues for future research.

Happy birthday, Dany!
